To facilitate teaching principles of forestry, the Logistic and Factory Systems Business Unit of the Fraunhofer IFF in Magdeburg developed an app that explains various calculations employed in wood and biomass logistics. Detailed diagrams and explanations clarify calculations, e.g. the conversion of units of wood, the calculation of wood heating value and the calculation of deck volume. Furthermore, the integrated calculator can be used to check calculations of one’s own based on the calculations introduced. The app is intended for actors in the timber, forestry and biomass industries as well as teachers and students of forestry sciences.
Functions:
- Convert units: harvest solid cubic meter, cubic meter, bulk cubic meter (woodchips and split logs)
- Calculate heating value: spruce, pine, beech, oak, poplar
- Calculate deck volumes by measuring sectioned volume
